On Wednesday 21 November, Australian High Commissioner, Jenny Da Rin, Minister of Internal Affairs, Andrew Napuat, and Parliamentary Secretaries, Johnny Koanapo and Silas Bule, led a high-level delegation to reopen Laminu Stadium and other buildings on Tanna.
Repaired through the Vt3 billion Australia-Vanuatu Tropical Cyclone Pam Recovery Program, the reopening of Laminu Stadium, five Department of Agriculture buildings and Vanuatu’s only community broadcasting station will have an immediate positive effect.
“Tanna’s recovery from Tropical Cyclone Pam has been remarkable and there is more work to be done.
These latest repairs will help reconnect Tannese communities through better communications, better sporting facilities and improved agricultural services,” said Australian High Commissioner, Jenny Da Rin.
Local businesses completed the majority of the high-quality reconstruction work, building up local skills, supporting local businesses and communities.
The Tropical Cyclone Recovery Program is a partnership between the Australian and Vanuatu Governments and has funded repairs to over 200 schools, health centres, public buildings, cooperatives and bungalows.
