Youth in Malekula have collected almost Vt200,000 cash, 30 bags of rice, root crops and kitchen utensils for cyclone victims in a recent wheelbarrow push.
The wheelbarrow push which started from Litzlitz to Norsup was organised by the President of the National Youth Council, Morry Ruben, Tigana Maho from the Malampa Finance Department and two private business operators, Gitu Malapa from Yele Kava Bar and Henry Willitien from Yake Constructions.
Provincial staff and government line departments at Lakatoro contributed with Vt100,100, making the cash contribution to Vt296, 100.
Member of Parliament (MP), Edmon Julun, joined the wheelbarrow push.
MP Julun and the Controller of the MALAMPA Provincial Emergency Operation Centre (PEOC), Donald Pelam, received the donations from the youth.
The money will be send to the SANMA and PENAMA PEOCs to support victims in affected islands such as Santo and Pentecost.
MALAMPA PEOC Controller Pelam applauded the youth for the initiative and people on Malekula for contributing to the wheelbarrow push.
He said their contributions will help rebuild livelihoods.
